About Us
Situated between the Old Oregon Trail Road and Interstate 84, in the northwest corner of Meacham, Oregon, lies 139 acres of open meadows and stands of Lodge Pole Pine trees. This bit of land at the top of the Blue Mountains has long been known as the "elk nursery". Rocky Mountain Elk frequent the area in the spring to calf and in the fall to mate.
Purchased as one parcel in 2015, the property was subdivided into 13 parcels ranging from 9.38 acres to 11.35 acres along a shared road. Power, telephone, and water were run to all 13 parcels. In 2019, Elk Meadow Water Improvement District (EMWID) was incorporated by the land developer to furnish water to the parcels from a shared well.
By 2022, all 13 parcels had been sold, and the management of EMWID was handed over to a Board of Directors made up of property owners. In August 2022, an election took place, resulting in the selection of a new President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Owner members re-incorporated as Wapiti Neighbors in 2025 to focus on maintaining both the well and the shared road and to emphasize our commitment to respecting the rights of owners to manage their properties as they see fit while all agreeing on the importance of keeping the area inviting to elk and other wildlife.
